I like to move it - our artwork
We had lots of fun painting our backgrounds for our Move It! art. We learnt to mix colours and added texture with sponges and popsicle sticks.

Matariki Stars

Last week we drew stars and patterns with wax crayons on our background before turning this into a night sky using water colours. Our night skies began to shine more brightly once we added some vibrant oil pastel stars.

Shading shapes

We are learning how to use pencil to create form through shading. We started by sketching a circle and added shading so that it transformed into a three-dimensional sphere. We added a cast shadow.
Makea sketched three shapes, using the pencil to show darker and lighter shades.

Because we're happy ...
What do we think about when we listen to music? What do we imagine? What do we visualize? During a busy week of testing, we spent some time listening to different styles of instrumental music. First of all we used Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsky-Korsakov to get our imaginations fired up ... bees buzzing above yellow sunflowers on a hot summer's day! A calm and relaxed oasis was later created through some happy guitar music which prompted the drawing of many calm and happy pictures. Great job, Room 9!

Sketching Te Taiao o Tāmaki
Te Taiao o Tāmaki is home to a variety of native birds, fish, plants and trees. Whether walking or playing at Omaru Creek or Pt England beach, there are many things to look at, watch and explore. We decided to sketch some of the birds and other things we have seen in our local environment. We needed to think about making our object look big enough on the paper and lightly drawing circles to begin to create the shape of a bird before adding any detail.

Kaitiaki: watching over everything
We are learning about Te Taiao o Tāmaki and we were shocked by the sewage and pollution we saw in the Omaru Creek. As we are all guardians, we decided that we could keep a watch over everything from Room 9: Kaitīakitanga i nga wā kātoa.
