Now That's Thinking!

The holidays are almost over ... I wonder what we will be learning about in Term 2?  Well, it's going to be all about thinking!

How has technology changed our lives over time? How do we use technology to communicate?  Back in the day, how did people find out who was who, and what was happening? Moving around from place to place ... how has that changed? Finding our way from place to place ... we know the way but how did our ancestors know the way? What might things look like in the future?

Now, that's thinking!

Giving it a go at hockey

Kiwisport came to teach us awesome hockey skills in Term 1. After choosing the right size stick, it was time to learn how to dribble, pass and shoot the ball. We showed off our awesome skills and how much we had learnt by playing mini-games in our final coaching sessions.

Cleaning up our environment

As ANZAC Day falls in the holidays, the plan was for the whole school to clean up Point England Beach today by giving an hour of our time to support Serve for NZ. With Cyclone Cook on the way, it wasn't a great day to head to the beach to clean up our local environment! Instead we did an amazing job of cleaning up our school environment before the holidays. Ka mau te wehi, Rooms 9 and 10!  The beach clean-up will happen later.

Sketching Te Taiao o Tāmaki

Te Taiao o Tāmaki is home to a variety of native birds, fish, plants and trees. Whether walking or playing at Omaru Creek or Pt England beach, there are many things to look at, watch and explore. We decided to sketch some of the birds and other things we have seen in our local environment. We needed to think about making our object look big enough on the paper and lightly drawing circles to begin to create the shape of a bird before adding any detail.

Maui and the sun - by Hunter

Hunter Maui and the Sun from Team 4 Pes on Vimeo.

Once upon a time in Aotearoa the sun went too fast across the sky. The people were not happy because they couldn't get their work done but there was a man called Maui who was a legend. Maui could save the world with his magic hook. Maui went to catch the sun. He lassoed the sun with his hook. He hit the sun until the sun promised to move across the sky slowly. Now the sun moves slowly across the sky.

A Duffy Role Model Assembly

On Wednesday Filipe Manu and Madison Nonoa visited Point England to share how reading has played an important role in their lives.  As well as being awesome readers, both Filipe and Madison are successful opera singers.  Check out their amazing voices!

Duffy Assembly from Team 4 Pes on Vimeo.

We are so lucky that Filipe and Madison were able to visit us.  It was just as exciting when we returned to class to be given our Duffy books for this term.  What is your favourite book?

What are we making?

As part of our learning about Te Taiao o Tāmaki, we were hard at work in Maker Space with Mr Vogt this week. We are designing and making bird feeders to use in our local environment: Kaitīakitanga i nga wā kātoa!  Our bird feeders will be on display at the special event at Te Oro later in the term.
